November ✨

Towards the end of the year I always think about what I’ve achieved - and seeing as my birthday rolls around at the beginning of the end, it’s often a time of reflection.

This year I had three things that I wanted to focus on.

Body.

Book deal.

Baby.

There’s no book deal, body is more broken than ever and well, infertility sucks.

As someone who prides themselves on being able to literally overreach and always get to where I want to get to, this year has been bitter sweet.

I’ve worked harder than ever but come up completely skint. I’ve diversified my portfolio beyond what I could imagined but have faced more rejection than I could have anticipated. I’ve got all the answers I have been begging for surrounding my health and yet it’s brought me no joy or closure.

This year has felt like setting up for success, but it’s often left me feeling battered and my resilience has been tested beyond compare.

I’m hoping that the hours upon hours I’ve spent putting into future me pays off in the not too distant future. But I’m looking forward to a quiet December with my Pete and gorgeous pup Lula, who have both helped me survive through some of the most soul destroying months I’ve ever faced.

Thirty two ✨

Some nice things to say about aging. God it’s such a privilege to get older. To have more opportunities to have coffee with friends, dinners and parties. We are so concerned with what we lose when we age but rarely do we think about what we gain.

And not just material things, or getting to those all important life events. Somehow the pressure feels off as I wander slowly towards my big life goals. I’m no longer sprinting through life, trying to survive it. I think thirties help you do this. It feels easier to go slower somehow, especially as time feels so sped up in many ways. Seriously, how quickly it feels this year had gone.

I’m grateful to be here. Thankful to be surrounded by so much love. Thank you to every single one who wished me a happy birthday, threw on some glad rags and celebrated, sent cards or called. I love you.

I couldn’t not write about why this is a significant moment in time, how the celebration tour knowingly or not is the soundtrack to my mothers life and simultaneously our relationship with one another.

So many of us share parasocial relationships with celebrities. But I’ve always hoped that Madonna knew how grateful we are that she chose to stick around. To give my mother and I a way to dedicate words we couldn’t formulate to one another in what has been a complicated, deep, uncompromising, unconditional love.
